County General Plan Update

On June 1, FoCuS submitted background material for the Calaveras County General Plan update on the subjects of climate change and peak oil.  A four-page commentary plus a cover letter and twelve supporting documents were delivered to Stephanie Moreno, Director of the Community Development Agency, Mintier and Associates, the consultants hired by the county to produce the background report, and each member of the Board of Supervisors.  We felt it was important to ask the county to address these two issues that have huge implications for planning.  Anyone who wishes to see a copy of our document can request the file from mickeyw@goldrush.com.

There is lack of clarity among the Board of Supervisors and the county offices as to whether or not individual community plans will be updated during this General Plan process and how community plans will be incorporated in the plan.  There is rumor that there will be a workshop on this topic in July; stay tuned for the date of that workshop when we know it.  It will be important to have a large citizen attendance at that gathering, speaking for community input and planning.

The date has been set for the Board of Supervisors study session on Community Plans.  It will be July 24, 1:30 PM, at the Town Hall in San Andreas.  This is an important meeting for those who want to see full Community Plans included in the new General Plan.
